Roadway/Highway Engineer Compensation & Benefits

Total compensation for the Roadway/Highway Engineer in Akron, OH  is between $65,000 and $85,000 depending on experience, and may be more than this range for candidates with exceptional experience and successful history of performance.

Roadway/Highway Engineer Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide Geometric roadway design, prepare Design Exceptions, 3R Safety Studies, Interchange Justification Studies and capacity studies
  • Perform Hydraulic analysis with various programs
  • Assist in writing proposals which include establishing scope, hours and fees to complete design tasks of various disciplines
  • Prepare plans and specifications of roadway construction documents utilizing computer assisted engineering and design software including Microstation and Geopak
  • Prepare or direct preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs of roadway projects
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geological data to plan and design projects
  • Prepare detailed engineering estimates of probable costs
  • Prepare and review schedules and ensure compliance utilizing Microsoft project and/or Primavera
  • Respond to Request for Information during construction phase
  • Inspect construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications and safety standards
  • Resolve design or construction problems and meets with contractors, clients and/or the public

Roadway/Highway Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with 8-15 years related experience
  • PE in State of Ohio or ability to obtain PE in six month
  • Supervisory experience / Strong written and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Continuous studying and training on the job is required

Roadway/Highway Engineer Physical Demands

  • The job requires long periods of sitting and working in an office environment with a computer. Occasional visits to project sites may include climbing and walking over rough terrain. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception. Occasionally required to wear safety helmets and safety glasses.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, although the individual can be exposed to loud noise situations occasionally. While performing site visits, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
